I’m Barrett Long, a product-focused software engineer and architect based in Edmonton. My background is somewhat unusual: I studied fine art and digital media, began professionally in design and web development, and over nearly a decade at Aivia progressed from UI/UX and hands-on development into technical leadership, product management, software architecture, and engineering management. Throughout that progression, I remained closely involved in building the products themselves—across frontend, backend, mobile, infrastructure, and user experience.

Since 2017, my primary work has been COM•MU•NI•KIT, a communications platform that grew from a single community application into a multi-tenant SaaS product serving more than 260 communities and 100,000+ users. I helped shape that evolution across product strategy, user experience, architecture, web and mobile development, team leadership, and delivery.
